|AYER KEROH (9 June 2010) - Even though she had to train for most of the time without a coach, the persistent hard work paid off handsomely for Wong Yik Yang when she won the gold in the women’s nanquan this morning at the Dewan Pusat Sukan Utem. |
The Negeri Sembilan lass scored 9.52points to finish ahead of Tai Cheau Xuen - also of Negeri Sembilan - with 9.45pts for the silver and See Min of Wilayah Persekutuan (9.26pts) for the bronze.
“I trained harder on the weekend while during the weekday, I trained around two hours a day,” said Yik Yan.
“For most of the time, I had to train on my own without a proper coach while at other times, I trained with friends.” Yik Yan is currently studying at Institute Pendidikan Guru with the campus at Tuanku Bainun in Bukit Mertajam.
|She is majoring in the Chinese language. Other than the gold and silver for Negeri Sembilan, Lau Hui Wei also picked up a bronze for the state in the men’s nanquan.|
